Houston Restaurant Weeks is the largest annual fundraiser for America's largest food bank, the Houston Food Bank.
It's a month long dining extravaganza featuring specially priced lunches, brunches and dinners at restaurants from The Woodlands to Galveston, Texas.
HRW is planned by volunteers so that participating restaurants can donate 100% of the funds raised to the Houston Food Bank.
Participating restaurants make donations directly to the Houston Food Bank based upon how many brunches, lunches and dinners they sell during the event. Diners are not solicited for donations.
The event includes restaurants located in Harris, Galveston and Montgomery counties. One hundred percent of the donations raised from restaurants in these counties will go directly to their local area food banks. The Galveston County Food Bank and Montgomery County Food Bank are part of the Houston Food Bank's Partner Distribution Organizations (PDOs). The Houston Food Bank provides food to these smaller food banks, which in turn distribute the food to hunger relief charities in a portion of HFB's service area. The Houston Food Bank certifies that their PDOs meet Feeding America standards.
About the Houston Food Bank
The Houston Food Bank is a solution to both hunger and food waste. Nationally recognized by Feeding America as 'Food Bank of the Year' in 2015, the Houston Food Bank is the largest source of food for hunger relief charities in 18 southeast Texas counties.
Each year, the Food Bank feeds 800,000 individuals through a network of 600 food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers and other charities.
The Food Bank distributes fresh produce, meat and nonperishables from their warehouse at 535 Portwall, Houston, where they also prepare nutritious hot meals for kids in their new state-of-the-art Keegan Kitchen.
They rescue food before it reaches the landfill through their retail pickup program with area grocery stores.
Additional community services include nutrition education, school-based programs and food stamp application assistance.
Founded in 1982, the Houston Food Bank is a certified member of Feeding America, the nation's food bank network, with a four-star rating from Charity Navigator.
