KATY (Covering Katy News) – It will be much easier to donate to Katy based nonprofit organizations on Giving Tuesday which is is a nationwide cyber giving event held on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving every year. Sixteen Katy area nonprofits have formed Giving Tuesday Katy. The group has its own website where donors can learn about the nonprofits before they decide which one to donate too, or make a single donation that will be shared by all the member organizations.
The #GivingTuesday movement’s origin dates back to 2012 and has become an international day of giving. This year in Katy, Giving Tuesday will be a coordinated effort as 16 of the communities most well known nonprofit organizations have come together to encourage donations through what they are calling #GivingTuesdayKaty.
“#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide,” said a statement from the organization #GivingTuesdayKaty.
#GivingTuesdayKaty will be celebrated on Nov. 27 and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back.
There are numerous sponsors of the event. The title sponsor is Katy based Members Choice Credit Union.
“Credit Unions were formed on the philosophy of people helping people, and at Members Choice, our view of that is to not only help those with a financial need but really serve those in need in the community,” said CEO Randy Theilig.
